HYBRID EVENT - LINK WILL BE SENT 1- & 2-DAYS PRIOR.
Literacy is a cornerstone of Pennsylvania’s future workforce, economic competitiveness, and community well-being. On Thursday, February 26th, business, education, nonprofit, and community leaders are invited to participate in an important conversation focused on literacy and its direct impact on workforce readiness—guided by insights and data from PA Teach Plus, a statewide organization dedicated to elevating educator and practitioner voices to strengthen education outcomes.
Through the lens of PA Teach Plus research and on-the-ground experience, this discussion will explore how literacy challenges—beginning in early education and extending into adulthood—directly affect talent pipelines, employee preparedness, and long-term economic growth. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of why literacy is not solely an education issue, but a shared responsibility that influences employers, communities, and regional vitality.
The event will feature Dr. Diane Fierle, an accomplished educator and leader with more than 30 years of experience across instructional, administrative, and higher education roles. Dr. Fierle brings a practitioner’s perspective on literacy, curriculum, and professional learning, offering valuable insight into effective strategies, system alignment, and the real-world impact of literacy on workforce development.
Joining her will be Rachel Garnick, Coalition Manager for the Pennsylvania Literacy Coalition at PA Teach Plus. Rachel works at the intersection of education, policy, and collaboration, helping to advance statewide literacy initiatives and elevate best practices. Her work focuses on building partnerships, informing policy conversations, and strengthening coordinated efforts to improve literacy outcomes across Pennsylvania.
Attendees will also learn how PA Teach Plus and the Pennsylvania Literacy Coalition inform policy, advance evidence-based practices, and foster cross-sector collaboration to support literacy from early learning through adulthood. This discussion will highlight opportunities for businesses, community leaders, and organizations to engage in solutions that strengthen both individuals and the regional workforce. Investing in literacy is an investment in Pennsylvania’s future—and this event is an opportunity to be part of that solution.
